Yeah the reasons are: qmake is crap :)
I really like the syntax of .pro/.pri files but qmake is really, really bad at handling dependencies, dependency changes etc. PRE_TARGETDEPS et-al don't always work and/or subtle errors can be really hard to track down.
If I add a library dep to a .pro file, why do I also need to use poorly-documented variables to tell qmake to re-link when those deps change?
I've literally lost hours trying to debug strange crashes only to find that qmake had failed to re-link properly to a changed library. I've NEVER had problems like this in other build systems.
