VS2005 is still tier 1 supported compiler:
http://doc.qt.nokia.com/latest/supported-platforms.html

Windows 7, MSVC 2010 is still tier 2.

Why would you blame people for using compiler you fully support if
you encourage them not to use the latest compiler in your documentation?

If you move MSVC 2010 to tier 1, people would more likely to switch.

Qt does not even distribute any 64 binaries for Windows yet.
It might be ok 5 years ago, but not today.
For example our company already bought
64 bit windows for everybody.

As what is the best practice - build Qt yourself for the platforms you need.

That is correct. We have a policy of rolling the supported compilers and targets, and that includes the compilers we build binaries for.

VS2005 is now over 5 years old. You should consider upgrading to something more modern.
