Hello all,
Recently a new task has been created QTBUG-17728 to use Harfbuzz on Qt/Mac
as it already is on Qt/Linux and Qt/Windows. Harfbuzz does the text
shaping. Currently, Qt/Mac uses the Mac's native CoreText (which has bugs
in handling of complex text).
If you know of other text rendering bugs in Qt/Mac, not listed currently,
please comment about them on this task.
Also, currently, this task is not prioritized very highly. If 1) you were
unaware of this task and would like this in Qt/Mac, 2) have noticed one of
the many bugs in the rendering of complex text under Mac's CoreText engine
(as I have seen several and am trying to document), or 3) would like
identical text rendering across platforms, please consider voting for this
issue.
It is my experience in dealing with complex scripts in Qt that the Mac
support is quite behind the Linux/Windows support due to using CoreText,
so if you work with complex scripts and this is important to you on Mac,
once again, consider voting for this issue.
Thanks!
