You might look back in the archived E-mails of this
list to find my E-mails about a font corruption problem
that I diagnosed several months ago. I also proposed a
correction for the problem but haven't heard anything
  from the Trolls about this.

Your problem doesn't sound exactly like my problem
(in that my problem involved a character glyph that
crossed a virtual memory page boundary in a .QSF
file so this character, by definition, could *NEVER*
be the first character used from a font) but perhaps
my posts will give you some ideas. Or perhaps there's
a mechanism I didn't see by which the first virtual
page mapping the .QSF file isn't managed correctly
  by Qt.

Subject: [Qt-interest] missing first character in labels

Dear all,

I have been struggling with the exact same issue and found only one hit
on
google, which was this old message. I was wondering if someone would
have
found a solution yet, or if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I'm using Qt 4.7.3 on embedded linux now, but some previous versions
have shown the same symptoms.

Regards,

Joost
