To be fair, I a) didn't follow this discussion, b) don't think you should do
that and c) "highlighting" not visible menu-items for "attention" isn't really
good human interface design, where as combining the titlebar with more stuff
might work out okay.
And I got you thinking not only about "cool design" but also about usability,
portability, standards and (most important) accessibility.
