Two things need to be present in the final design, ideally dynamic, ideally
as "independent as possible" (e.g., I'd desire independent mechanisms):

(1) "Top-down" establishment of placement, impacting item size.

(2) "Bottoms-up" establishment of size, impacting item placement.
