No I did not. I was running a VNC server (krdf) that shows the running local 
X11 session to the remote VNC client. KDE calls this remote desktop sharing.

But thanks for the hint: X11 through SSH works fine as well - it always uses 
the software renderer. I could not try X11 via plain TCP right now because 
my two running X11 sessions have TCP turned off, but I do not expect that to 
be different.
