Hello Rick, welcome to the mailing list. You've come to the right place.

The latest information I have is that XInput 2.1 will not land into the 
upcoming August release of X.org. At the soonest, it will be ready for the 
January/2012 release.

In my *opinion*, that's too late. I think we'll have migrated all of our 
attention to Wayland by then and we'll be seriously pushing Wayland to 
everyone under the sun. X11 support (via XCB) will not be the attention, so no 
one will be writing an XI2.1 support.

We've been driving that. We've been even sponsoring some people to work on 
that. But if it isn't released in August, I doubt it will ever make a 
difference to the world.
