Where in the process would I need to put this statement in? I am a complete
noob with linux and compiling software

Also, can you help with bisecting the culsprit commit if you find a revision
that worked? That would be a great help. "git bisect --run configure ...."
should be enough to get the culsprit commit without too much effort.
