Meeting minutes from Qt Release Team meeting 27th October 2015

Qt 5.6 Beta status
- Finally first LGPL snapshot available in http://download.qt.io/snapshots/qt/5.6/5.6.0-beta/
	* Not full set of installers but at least one for each platform
	* Official testing request will be sent for dev ML tomorrow, hoping we could have some more before that

- Quite many bugs still open in beta blocker list, see https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-47958
	* Most of those are regression from 5.5.1 and because of change how we create packages (= binaries are from new ci). That's why I want tho get those fixed now. That way we could put focus to fix real qt bugs between beta & RC

- Some issue in qtbase is preventing us to get newest changes in qt5.git at the moment

--> We need to postpone beta release again. New target 12.11.2015. Hoping we could get new content in qt5.git and proper set of installers for official testing during this week. That way we should have enough time to do the testing & fix new blockers found.

Next meeting Tue 10.11.2015 16:00 CET

[17:01:11] <akseli> jaheikki3_: pong
[17:02:59] <jaheikki3_> Time to start Qt release team meeting
[17:03:05] <jaheikki3_> on agenda today:
[17:03:11] <jaheikki3_> Qt 5.6.0 Beta status
[17:03:28] <ablasche> pong
[17:03:36] <jaheikki3_> Any additional item to the agenda?
[17:05:44] <jaheikki3_> Ok, Qt 5.6.0 beta status:
[17:06:16] <jaheikki3_> Finally first LGPL snapshot available in http://download.qt.io/snapshots/qt/5.6/5.6.0-beta/
[17:06:45] <jaheikki3_> Not full set of installers but at least one for each platform
[17:07:46] <jaheikki3_> Official testing request will be sent for dev ML tomorrow, hoping we could have some more before that
[17:08:04] <carewolf> pong
[17:09:10] <jaheikki3_> 32 bit windows binaries are still missing in coin (=new ci) side so those cannot be done yet but all others should be possible. It is just some minor mistakes etc in the packaging conf side
[17:10:23] <jaheikki3_> Quite many bugs still open in beta blocker list, see https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-47958
[17:10:55] <carewolf> how many should actually block the beta?
[17:11:26] <jaheikki3_> We have fixes available for most of those already, some waiting for qt5.git integration and some just waiting for new package creation
[17:13:19] <jaheikki3_> carewolf: Well, all of those are kind of beta blockers. Most of those are regression from 5.5.1 and because of change how we create packages (= binaries are from new ci). That's why I want tho get those fixed now. That way we could put focus to fix real qt bugs between beta & RC
[17:13:59] <carewolf> right, it looks like there was already some moved to blocking RC
[17:14:11] <jaheikki3_> yeah
[17:16:28] <jaheikki3_> at the moment there is some issue in qtbase which prevents us to get newest changes in qt5.git, see https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/138578/
[17:17:38] <jaheikki3_> we need to solve that & get those packaging related issues fixed to be able to produce proper set of installers for testing
[17:18:06] <jaheikki3_> Hoping we could have that during this week
[17:19:12] <jaheikki3_> And when we have testing results available we are much wiser about beta & schedule
[17:19:36] <jaheikki3_> But it is sure beta won't happen this thu as earlier estimated
[17:20:38] <jaheikki3_> I would say we need to postpone beta anther 2 weeks now. That way we should have time to get all packages, do the testing & fix found blockers
[17:20:44] <jaheikki3_> Any comments?
[17:20:50] <carewolf> sounds reasonable
[17:21:59] <The-Compiler> any chance to get source tarballs for the beta? I don't really get when there are source tarballs released and when not, but it'd make it a lot easier for me to test things (as I can build a proper Archlinux package easily)
[17:23:14] <jaheikki3_> The-Compiler: Good point. I'll copy src packages http://download.qt.io/snapshots/qt/5.6/5.6.0-beta/latest_src before sending info/testing request to ML
[17:23:30] <The-Compiler> jaheikki3_: great, thanks :)
[17:23:45] <jaheikki3_> And try to update the folder every time before sending testing requests
[17:25:03] <jaheikki3_> Ok, I think this was all at this time. I think we can have new meeting after 2 weeks. Then we can see if we are ready for the beta or not. So ok to have next meeting Tue 10.11 at this same time?
[17:26:34] <akseli> +1
[17:27:07] <jaheikki3_> Great. Let's end this meeting now & have new after 2 weeks. Thanks & bye!
[17:27:20] <carewolf> bye
