Message-ID: Hello, I once made a similar proposal on development ML, and I guess it's time to renew it here: could we please add BitTorrent links to Qt Project download page? Qt userbase is huge and includes a lot of people who would benefit from downloading using that protocol. Also, Qt Project server bandwidth usage may drop. I really don't think more explanation is needed, but just in case: Pros: - lower bandwidth consumption for qt-project.org - .torrent files are typically just several KB in size - download will work even if Qt Project site goes down for any reason (site maintenance, power outage, flood, etc.) - users will have the ability to resume their downloads, even after system crash - bittorrent will recover from download errors, while HTTP download will not - built-in checksum verification - yet another way to share Qt ;) Cons: - company firewalls are likely to block BitTorrent protocol, but those users will still be able to get regular HTTP download I can create torrent files and get it to a tracker like legittorrents.info, and then share them with you, if you want me to and/ or are too busy to do it yourselves. Should I CC development mailing list, too? Here's a link to discussion that made me write this mail: http://qt-project.org/forums/viewthread/23447/ Cheers, Tom From knut.yrvin at digia.com Mon Jan 14 12:48:06 2013 From: knut.yrvin at digia.com (Knut Yrvin) Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2013 12:48:06 +0100 Subject: [Web] Reminder: Open Governance meeting today 20:00 CET on Legal issues :) Message-ID: <3895148.hgydLDxJRH@qt-station> Just a gentle reminding on the IRC meeting on Open Governance today, 20:00 CET (21:00 EET). CCing to the release mailing list since this list seems to be kinda dead. Hi, We are in the process of migrating to http://www.mirrorbrain.org/ at some point, so it seems to me that this might be possible to do in the future. I don't know the exact details, so stay tuned :) Cheers, -- Sergio Ahumada Release Engineer - Digia, Qt
