The other alternative is to keep the git clones around. E.g. with the Osmocom
jenkins[1] we have a trivial shell script[2] (it could use an || rm -rf..) to
either update the existing code or to git clone. So I don't really see the
need of why one is forced to throw away a git clone (when there are ways to
properly clean it).

Yes, I tried to understand what the present perl scripts provide and if it
makes sense to use them. Right now I think the perl scripts add a lot of
complication for little to no gain. I think I will start using the testrunner
script only.
