thiago complained about the decision making process, not the announcement.

and regarding announcements: to be reasonably effective, it would need
to be done at least a day in advance. given the minor impact (*) and the
potential (**) time-criticality, i don't think this would have been a
reasonable delay.

(*) there was actually some fallout on the CI. but let's face it: the
delay wouldn't have changed anything, because the root cause was lying
several days in the past and nobody was aware of it.
(**) judging by the enthusiasm of the reviewers, nobody seems to
actually care for these commits ...
