Yeah, this is definitely a regression, between 4.8.x and 5.something on 
Mac. I couldn't find any fixes for this in the 5.x bug fixes list.

Other Mac problems I found (that used to work):

1. keyboard modifiers not triggering key events
2. GL_XOR logic-op no longer works
