You're explaining the YUV, YCbCr and YPbPr colourspaces. Yes, those come from 
analog and colour TV. And even if modern LED TVs red, green and blue LEDs, 
they have different colour wavelengths than the RGB colourspace asks for, so a 
conversion is necessary anyway.

I was talking about the packing pixel values of the YUV 4:2:0 scheme -- the 
fact that U and V are located later in the scan line. That came much later.
