[Interest] system wide sound control / QtMultiMedia/Phonon question

Is there a Qt API so I can control system-wide sound (like volume
slider + mute button)
I try to do that on Linux /pulseaudio/alsa but I'd like to have a
signal volumeChanged so the slider gets updated if the volume was
changed externally.

I know Phonon can do this, but since it's not part of Qt5 and depends
on Qt4, is there a better way?
