Also a good suggestion which I didn't knew before. But in this case, I'm using extended QFileSystemModel and QSortFilterProxyModel classes to provide additional meta information to the view.

I think I will wait for TreeView's rootIndex property in 5.6, as suggested by Curtis Mitch, but thank you for your help nevertheless.
