Agreed, its just after destroying a partition while attempting to 
upgrade Mavericks to El Capitan, running El Capitan in a VM is my only 
option at the moment. But that is another story....

Running my full PyQt app in El Capitan works better up to a point, in 
that switching 'British' to 'Myanmar-QWERTY' via system preferences 
doesn't crash it. But my application includes code to switch the 
keyboard input source depending on which text editor is in focus, and 
that is still causing problems. I'm attempting to expand my test Qt app 
to include a couple of QTextEdits and switching code to see how that 
works...
