Ahhh, right, that was my hunch: one of those "let's make our Unix desktop OS behave more like a phone OS". And you wonder why I felt like tinkering? :)

You're right that the errors came from linking in dependencies which I obviously didn't rebuild with the option.

I'm not going to speculate beyond "Or maybe the whole exercise wasn't actually that necessary to begin with?" ...
