Ninja isn't mandatory, but a good idea.

Don't use the configure scripts any more. Please use CMake directly.

The CMake logs aren't useful if the problem isn't compiling something. Please 
paste the entire output from CMake.

We may need a run with --trace-expand to find out the decisions it made.

I spent over one hour to get past the "cmake" step yesterday on macOS. I have 
not started on Windows. Will probably do that in June.
