I agree that being consistent would be better, but actually android uses (from creator perspective) a single device, which then in the android plugin then maps to the “current” device used by the tools.
iOS on the other hand actually defines different [Qt Creator] devices for different iOS devices, and either in that selector, or Build&Run is how you change the device in creator.

Actually the simulator is a bit more like android, as there is a single device, but in projects>run you can choose the actual device (I thought about using QtCreator devices also there, but those do not scale well for large numbers).

Using a single device for real devices and have a creator global switch seems worse to me than the actual setup.
