you have to compile qt4, put its library and stuff into another folder (this 
will become your new QTDIR for qt4) in your embed platform than the original 
qt2, and use this QTDIR to run your new application built with qt4. Older 
application that uses qt2 will able to run again because it points to original 
QT2 dir.

I suggest you to read how upgrading libraries in Linux works.
