Yes, you have missed something - the tons of example code you'll find in the "examples" directory in your Qt installation (http://doc.trolltech.com/4.5/examples.html). Also refer to the excellent Qt tutorials and demonstrations, for example this one: http://doc.trolltech.com/4.5/demos-composition.html

You see, lots of code and good documenation to get inspired from - make heavy use of that!
