Do I understand you correctly that the necessitas sdk also provides
an android emulator (separate from the android-provided emulator that
Atlant mentioned)?

Yes. it does.

I think I'll start by downloading necessitas and see if I can get a few Qt
apps working on the necessitas and/or android emulators.  If that works
out I'll look into buying an android phone.
