Try Digest mode.

I'm serious...  Yeah, I know you are only supposed to get 1 or 2 big emails a day, however the digest mode on the qt mail list server serves up dozens of digested mails a day as little as 6 minutes apart (i.e. I have 1 from 9:48am, and another from 9:54am today).    If that works more quickly, maybe the issue is local.
