Meeting minutes from Qt Release Team meeting 21st April 2015
Qt 5.5 Beta status
- First snapshot out & under testing
- Some installers still missing but should be available when new snapshot created (Linux 32 ones might need still some work, let's see)
- Some issues with integrating latest changes in qt5.git. Fixing ongoing
- Target is to create new snapshot when new content integrated in qt5.git
- Hoping we could get new snapshot during this week & get beta out during next one
Qt 5.4.2 status
- Branching finished, all changes targeted to qt5.4.2 release must be done to '5.4.2' branch now
- First snapshot out & under testing, new one will be created when new content in qt5.git
- qt5.git integration ongoing
- Target to create Qt5.4.2 "RC" at the end of this week/beginning of next week & put Qt5.4.2 out at the beginning of May (if nothing serious found during testing)
Qt 4.8.7 status:
- https://codereview.qt-project.org/96486 "OSX: avoid crash in invalidateBuffer_resizeHelper on parentless widget" is integrating (QTBUG-41716)
- When that change is in, freeze sha1 to that commit and then build release candidate packages
- if no new regression is found during testing then we would have 4.8.7 ready for release
- unfortunately that would mean release is delayed to next week in practise
Next meeting Tue 28.4.2015 16:00 CET

[17:04:35] <jaheikki3> Let's start from Qt5.5 Beta status:
[17:04:53] <jaheikki3> - First snapshot out & under testing
[17:05:08] <jaheikki3> - Some installers still missing but should be available when new snapshot created (Linux 32 ones might need still some work, let's see)

[17:06:19] <jaheikki3> - Target is to create new snapshot when new content integrated in qt5.git
[17:06:32] <jaheikki3> - Hoping we could get new snapshot during this week & get beta out during next one
[17:06:48] <jaheikki3> Any comments / questions?
[17:08:06] <jaheikki3> Then Qt 5.4.2 status:
[17:08:20] <jaheikki3> Branching finished, all changes targeted to qt5.4.2 release must be done to '5.4.2' branch now
[17:08:34] <jaheikki3> First snapshot out & under testing, new one will be created when new content in qt5.git
[17:08:44] <jaheikki3> qt5.git integration ongoing
[17:08:58] <jaheikki3> Target to create Qt5.4.2 "RC" at the end of this week/beginning of next week & put Qt5.4.2 out at the beginning of May (if nothing serious found during testing)
[17:09:13] <jaheikki3> Comments/Questions?
[17:11:19] <jaheikki3> Then Qt 4.8.7 status, akseli:
[17:12:21] <akseli> Qt 4.8.7 status shortly: https://codereview.qt-project.org/96486 "OSX: avoid crash in invalidateBuffer_resizeHelper on parentless widget" is integrating (QTBUG-41716)
[17:12:27] <akseli> my proposal is to get that change in, freeze sha1 to that commit and then build release candidate packages
[17:12:57] <akseli> if no new regression is found during testing then we would have 4.8.7 ready for release
[17:13:43] <akseli> unfortunately that would mean release is delayed to next week in practise
[17:14:07] <akseli> comments\questions?
[17:14:24] <fkleint> akseli: WHat MSVC versions will we have for 4.8.7?
[17:14:35] <fkleint> akseli:Is there a chance of MSVC2013
[17:14:35] <fkleint> ?
[17:15:29] <akseli> no prebuild binaries planned for that but msvc2013 has mkspec already in 4.8.6 if i recall correctly
[17:15:53] <akseli> vs2008 & vs2010 prebuild binaries are currently in the scope
[17:16:35] <akseli> and i wouldn't like to extend that scope either
[17:16:54] <fkleint> akseli: Why not..we found that it very much helps porting 4..5?
[17:20:08] <akseli> that is good point i admit .. maybe we should make trial for that package and see how it goes
[17:20:44] <fkleint> yup..would be appreciated
[17:21:15] <akseli> but no promises at this point of time ;)
[17:21:31] <fkleint> in theory one could also drive this further, add deprecation to Qt 4(Qt::WFlags etc), add some methods from Qt 5, add stuff like Q_DECL_OVERRIDE
[17:21:44] <fkleint> so that people can port smoothly.
[17:21:56] <fkleint> but that is another topic
[17:22:25] <jaheikki3> Yeah, and too late for Qt 4.8.7 schedule...
[17:22:40] <fkleint> anyone from KDAB here? wondering about the state of Qt 3D ..docs are pretty bleak, etc
[17:25:13] <jaheikki3> I think we can live with those in beta but in RC those need to be as good as possible
[17:26:47] <jaheikki3> Ok, I think this was all at this time. Ok to have next meeting tue 28th April 16:00 CET?
[17:27:15] <fkleint> yup
[17:27:39] <akseli> +1
[17:29:08] <jaheikki3> Let's end this meeting now. Thanks & bye!
[17:29:16] <akseli> bye
[17:29:31] <fkleint> bye
