Thank you. After careful consideration I accept the nomination. 

I have no doubt both Volker and I have both the qualifications and experience 
to do the job well, so do not read this as a lack of confidence in Volker or 
even direct opposition to him; but with people already suggesting me,  I think 
we would benefit from a proper election to boost the legitimacy of the new 
chief maintainer. Having a vote of confidence without an alternative just 
seemed sub-optimal.
