[Interest] restoring an automatic form of system-wide non-default style support

Hello,
I'm still regretting the demise of qtconfig and the way it allowed to set a system/session wide non-default style and font that applied automatically to all Qt4 applications. There isn't anything currently that could provide a similar functionality at least for applications that link against a central Qt installation, right (not even qt.conf)?
If so, would it be feasible to create a simple/elegant patch that reads default values from env. variables (or qt.conf...) and applies those if no -style option is given? I was thinking of a patch at the application level, but I guess a site-local patch to Qt itself would be more transparent, no?
Thanks,
René
