Our project is almost ready to ship, built with the newest Qt version.

However, we want to build a version for OS 10.14 Mojave. That way we can run it on the same machine as our prior 32-bit app for final testing. In fact, a build for OS 10.12 Sierra would be ideal (last OS that doesn't require monthly fee for DreamWeaver).

Is there information somewhere about the best combination of Qt, Qt Creator and Xcode for each OS? We've tried installing several versions from the archives, but it won't build because of missing kits.

Thanks,
Casey McDermott

Hi Casey,

The last version of Qt to still support macOS 10.14 as the target was Qt 6.4:

https://doc.qt.io/archives/qt-6.4/supported-platforms.html

macOS 10.14 reached official end of life in October 2021.

Qt 6.5 already requires at least macOS 11 as the target platform. Qt 6.5 was an LTS release, but is at this point under extended security maintenance, which requires a separate agreement:

https://www.qt.io/development/qt-framework/security-maintenance

If you built your application with the newest Qt (6.11), then the target platform needs to be macOS 13 or higher:

https://doc.qt.io/qt-6/supported-platforms.html

The oldest commercially supported version of Qt is 6.8, and requires macOS 12 or higher.

I’m not aware of a comprehensive overview of which Qt version to use in order to target which platform version. But asking google "what is the latest Qt version that supported macOS 10.14 as target platform” provides Qt 6.4 as the correct answer.

Volker
