No, I will not "Type differently". :-)
It is very detectable to see if text is selected then quote the selected text.  In fact, I like and use that aspect a lot.

*You* should "type differently to solve your problem. ;-) One backspace after selection will get you where you want to be. Then that rolls you into our desired revised quoting behavior. :-)
