[Qt-interest] Qt 4.8 - Desktop Multimedia support?

Ignore the QtMobility title and just go with it. It has what you want. I don't
think it was named well, but the effort and title represents the capabilities
they needed to add to Qt to target phones, without including in Qt proper. The
multimedia part should be in Qt proper, but many services are desktop-able. In
fact, only bearer management is a "mobile exclusive" thing, but it can have
usage on desktop as well...

Subject: [Qt-interest] Qt 4.8 - Desktop Multimedia support?

Hello all,

I didn’t see Multimedia support mentioned in the Qt 4.8 roadmaps recently
posted. I have “heard it said” that the new Multimedia support would be in Qt
4.8, but I cannot find anything on the Qt website to substantiate that.

The only information I can find about Multimedia roadmaps on the Qt site are
quite old, such as
http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2010/05/06/qt-47-scope-change-regarding-qt-multimedia/

That document mentions Mobile Multimedia solutions moving to Qt Solutions and Qt
Quick. But what is the plan for Desktop Qt? Is Phonon going to stay the only
solution after all? The relationship to Mobility vs. Desktop is very confusing
trying to follow the threads of comments and documentation. Can anyone clarify
the current state of things and future plans for Phonon and Qt Multimedia for
Desktop?
